Buttermilk Biscuits

Light, fluffy and delicious

From The Fannie Farmer Cookbook


2 cups flour
2 tsp flour
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 cream of tartar (optional)
1 tbsp sugar
1/2 shortening
2/3-3/4 cup buttermilk

Preheat oven to 425 F

Mix together dry ingredients
Cut in shortening
Add buttermilk
Toss with fork until it forms a dough
Gather into a ball
Turn out onto lightly floured surface
Knead 14 times
Roll out
Cut into 3 inch circles

Bake 12 minutes
